So this is how it happened...
In mid-May I took a 1st grade postition with Midland ISD. The week I got to Midland after school was out I got a call from the Lamesa ISD assisstant superintendent asking if I was still interested in an interview. I told him that I had already taken a job with MISD but thanks for concidering me. Didn't think anything else about it. Last Monday I went and saw my new classroom and got my keys. I was planning on going later in the week to unload some of my stuff and start getting decorating ideas. Wednesday I had an appointment with HR to sign my contract and do my other paperwork. Tuesday we ended up going to talk to some home builders in Greenwood (a small community just outside of Midland) and were about to get the ball rolling on the process of buying a spec-house that has been started but not sold. When we got back in the car I saw that I had a missed call and voicemail from a principal in Lamesa asking me to "PLEASE call me back" and she left the school number and her cell phone. I got in touch with her and she asked if I was interested in interviewing. At that moment so many thoughts went through my head and I think I just asked her if I could talk it over with my husband and call her back in a bit. These were our thoughts...1) It can't be coincidence that they've called me twice. 2) The timing also is interesting- here we are ABOUT to get busy with this house building stuff but we had not gotten in too deep. 3) We have not signed any paper work on my MISD job or the house. 4) This would be the most relaxed interview I would probably ever go on knowing that I already had a job so we might as well see what they have to say. So I called her back and we set up an interview for 9:30 the next morning (the same day I was supposed to sign paperwork with MISD).
Lamesa's Elementary schools are set up a bit differently. They have a pk-2 campus and a 3-5 campus. Their interview process is to speak with both principals and the superintendent (in my case the assissant superintendent). So I started with the 3-5 principal and I did like her. I liked the way she ran her school. I could see myself there if I had to be. Next I went to the pk-2 campus. The principal there was great. He instantly made me feel comfortable and at home. While I liked the other campus, I LOVED this one. Evertyhing about they way he runs his school seems like the perfect fit for me. From there I went to speak with the assisstant superintendent. I told him (and both principals) up front that I already had an offer from MISD but we would rather be in Lamesa. We spoke for a while and he then told me that he was not the one that offers positions; that was up to the principals. He also told me that because I wanted to be local, I had expeirence and I friends in the area made me very desirable to Lamesa. We spoke a little longer and he said he was going to step out to make a phone call. He came back in and told me that he had called both principals and said "before you leave today I want you to know you have a position somewhere with us. I don't know which campus it will be but you have a job with us".
So Levi and I spent the rest of the day driving around town with a co-worker of his looking at houses and we just felt like that is where we needed to be. I called the assisstant superintendent back and told him I would take the job (by this time I had heard from the pk-2 principal and he said the job would be on that campus- either 1st or 2nd grade).
I'm not a big believer in coincidence. If there ever was a "God-thing" this is one! The timing of the phone calls, the fact that I hadn't gotten around to unloading my stuff at the school in Midland, the fact that we had not signed ANY paperwork, the fact that housing is SO much more reasonable in Lamesa than Midland. I know that Lamesa is where God wants us right now- He's made it quite obvious :)
I'll try to keep everyone updated about which grade level I get and when we will start the move and housing and all that but for now...I should start thinking about packing up all our stuff....again :)
